Front Door Painting Services

Timber Front Doors

Timber front doors in Victorian and Edwardian properties are often the most visible joinery element. Freshly prepared and painted doors transform street presence.

Where the existing finish is compromised, we strip to sound timber. Minor damage is repaired, exterior primer is applied, and durable exterior gloss or satin finishes the job.

uPVC and Composite Doors

uPVC front doors can be repainted using specialist adhesion systems. The original factory finish must be cleaned and prepared correctly before primer is applied.

Composite doors with GRP faces accept paint with appropriate specialist primers. We advise on the correct system for the door type at the site visit.

Colour Selection and Conservation Area Guidance

Colour choice on a front door in a Conservation Area is more considered than on properties outside designated zones. Colours complement the building and street context.

For standard properties outside Conservation Areas, colour selection expresses character. Kerb appeal is maintained.

Preparation, Priming, and Hardware

Preparation and Priming

Door preparation before painting determines the finish lifespan. Correctly stripped, filled, primed, and finished doors hold appearance for five to eight years.

We do not apply topcoats over unsound surfaces. We assess and address preparation correctly before colour is applied.

Hardware and Knockers

We remove and refit all door hardware as part of front door repaints. Hardware that is tightly masked without removal produces amateurish paint lines.

Correct removal and refitting is part of the job. See our door painting page for more on our approach.

Here’s How It Works

1. Door Assessment

The existing finish is inspected. Flaking, lifting, or deterioration is noted. Preparation requirements are agreed.

2. Hardware Removal

Letterbox, knocker, and handles are removed. Hinges are masked or removed depending on door profile.

3. Preparation

Flaking finish is stripped to sound material. The surface is filled, sanded, and cleaned before primer.

4. Priming

Exterior timber primer is applied to bare timber. Adhesion primer is applied to uPVC and composite.

5. Finish and Refit

Durable exterior gloss or satin is applied in two coats minimum. Hardware is refitted on completion.
